From its first days several decades ago Alaska Rainbow Lodge held high standards for its program. With a history of providing fantastic fishing experiences in Alaska the legacy continues today with owner Chip Ferguson taking the reins. Chip began his journey as a lodge camp hand. His passion has led him to what is now pilot and owner. He and his wife Amanda are on site every day to take care of your needs. With three DeHavilland Beavers on floats, Another Cessna 185 and 30 jet boats stashed on some fourteen different systems, guests of Alaska Rainbow Lodge have plenty of options to choose from. The lodges' location on the lower Kvichak river offers short flights to some of the best fishing in the Bristol Bay region. The setting is remote but the level of comfort and service high. Alaska Rainbow Lodge is a great destination for seasoned Alaska anglers as well as first time visitors.
Alaska Rainbow Lodge has three DeHavilland Beavers on floats docked out front. Each day guests will have the ability to fly where the fishing matches their desires. Once at the destination of choice guests may jump in a jet boat, a raft or hike into their fishing waters for the day. Alaska Rainbow lodge has unique concessions to stash boats throughout the region. They can have you fishing for all five species of salmon, rainbow trout, Arctic char, grayling, Dolly Vardon and more. The lodge can furnish rods/reels and all the terminal tackle for its guests. Their professional guides are happy to offer casting instruction at the lodge and insight while on the water. Alaska Rainbow Lodge is simply one of the most well-equipped full fly out lodges in the region.
Guests at Alaska Rainbow Lodge are treated to comfort in a remote setting. The lodge has a combination of double occupancy lodge rooms and cabins. Each has a private bathroom and shower. The rooms are well equipped with tables, chairs, dressers, and all with plenty of space. There is satellite WiFi throughout the lodge. Guests can enjoy appetizers and cocktails in the lounge room, which is filled with couches, tables, and chairs the overlook the river. The professional open kitchen is busy throughout the day preparing top notch meals. Expect to be treated with gourmet dinners with prime cuts of beef, seafood, etc. and made to order breakfasts. The lodge has a sauna for guests to relax in as well as a screened gazebo overlooking the river. There is a large wader room, and the lodge provides drying service for wet garments. Alcohol is provided.
Day 1: Arrive Anchorage and overnight.
Days 2:Included flight to King Salmon transfer to float planes and continue to the lodge.
Day 3-8:Full days of fly out fishing with all meals and accommodations.
Days 9:After breakfast, transfer back to King Salmon for the flight to Anchorage and connect to flight home.

Who is best suited to this destination? Anglers of all abilities that are looking for a diverse, high quality freshwater river-focused Alaska fly-out experience.
Where is the lodge? The lodge is located on the lower Kvichak river upstream of the small community of Levellock and Bristol Bay, about 35 miles north of King Salmon, AK.
How do I get there? Guests will need to arrive in Anchorage on Thursday and overnight. On Friday AM, the lodge coordinated charter will fly you to King Salmon, AK. There you will be met by lodge vans and transferred to the float planes. From King Salmon you will fly north to the riverside lodge.
When should I go? Mid -June through October.
How will I fish? Angling tactics can change throughout the season and the lodge will have you fishing the best technique in the best water. Generally speaking, June and July offer streamer and dry fly fishing for trout, August and most of September is more focused on the dead-drifted egg and indicator tactics. Salmon fishing will always be on a tight line with sockeye and silvers offering the highest catch rates.
Is there wade fishing? Yes, but boat options are also available.
Where will I fish? The lodge has boats stashed on 14 rivers and they hike into even more spots. There is everything from small inland trout streams to a large tidewater salmon rivers.
How long does it take to reach the fishing grounds? Generally flights are between 10- and 45-minutes long.
What type(s) of fish will I catch? Rainbow trout, all five species of Pacific salmon, Arctic char, and grayling.
How many fish will I catch? Catch rates can fluctuate from species to species but expect double digits most days.
Will I see other anglers? Yes, many days will have you fishing with others, but if more solitude is your preference that can be arranged.
What are the guides like? The guides are professional and polite.
What are the physical demands? If preferred you can have trips with little in terms of physical demands, mostly fishing out of boats. If you would like to hike more, that is always an option. Climbing in and out of float planes takes some dexterity.
Are there any special skills required? No
Does the lodge provide equipment? Yes, rods/reels and terminal tackle are included. Waders and boots can be provided for an additional cost.
What is your favorite setup for the trip? A high quality seven weight with a floating line will cover the most bases.
What are the top flies? The lodge has all the best flies for the specific species and seasons. Favorites include Dali Llama's, Morrish Mouse and various sizes of beads in shades of orange.
What are the options if weather conditions become challenging? High winds and heavy fog can hinder flying. The lodge may decide to transfer you by boat or wait for the weather to improve. They will keep you out fishing late if you do not depart on time.
What is a typical day like? Each morning the staff will bring you a tray with your favorite beverage around 6AM. At 7AM breakfast is served and made to order. By 8AM guests are in their waders and ready to step into the float planes and boats. Guests return by 6PM for appetizers and dinner follows at 7PM.
What is the general vibe, atmosphere and style of the lodge? The lodge is relaxed, and the staff is attentive. There is a traditional AK feel with images and memorabilia of past seasons adorning the walls.
Is there an on-site owner, manager, or other point-person at the lodge? Chip and Amanda Ferguson are on-site owners. Gabrielle is the head of guest services and available for any questions throughout your stay.
Where do we eat, and what are the meals like? The dining area consists of four large tables where all guests and owners enjoy meals. The meals are all high quality. Breakfast can be made to order and always features a special. Dinner is a top-notch affair with three courses.
What is the alcohol policy? Beer, wine and a small selection of spirits are available on site and included. If you would like something special on site, please contact Fly Water well in advance of your trip.
Where do we stay, and what are the accommodations like? All guests stay in double occupancy rooms or cabins with private bathrooms. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.
Is there internet and/or cell service? Yes, there is satellite internet with limited bandwidth.
Are there other activities? Bear viewing at Brooks Falls and other rivers is seasonally available.
Are there any other expenses? Fishing licenses, king salmon stamp, guide, and staff gratuities.
Are there any health concerns, dangers, or annoyances? Boats and small planes have inherent risks involved. Bears and other wildlife are always present in remote Alaska. Biting bugs can be present especially June through August.
